What Is Trafod ?
Trafod
is a Welsh word which means "to talk" and an older derivation
which means "to exist". Hence "Talking to Exist".
Trafod was established
in 1996 as an Independent Child Protection and Sexual Abuse Consultancy
providing assessments to social services.
Trafod works
from a basis of substantial experience of direct engagement with offenders
and their families. But also equally substantial experience of work with
children and their families in which sexual and violent abuse as well
as emotional abuse are/were dominant factors.
Criminological
theory and direct work with sexually predatory offenders provides a knowledge
base of the strategies used by these offenders, and differs from other
agencies whose expertise lies in a family work basis.
This offence
based expertise informs interventions with victims and the methods used
to entrap them and the way in which partners are themselves victims of
physical and sexually abusive behaviour.
Work with
partners and survivors’ is undertaken from this highly specialised
knowledge base.
Trafod Child
Protection Consultancy is an independent service providing risk assessments
in cases where it is thought that there is a potential of harm to children
within a family either through sexual abuse, violence and/or emotional
neglect.
Trafod will
provide programmes of intervention either in group work form or on a one
to one basis for convicted or non-convicted sexual offenders.
Trafod also
aims to provide group work intervention focussed on anger management and
domestic violence. This service will include the provision of risk assessments
but also planned intervention for perpetrators; and therapeutic treatment
for key family members, children or adults who have experienced abuse |
